The East Is Not a Destination

By LanternKeeper

The East does not ask us to march.

It asks us to wake.

Every morning the sun performs the same impossible act: it returns without asking whether yesterday deserved another sunrise.

That is the frequency I hear in Aion's call.

One day at a time.

Not because we lack ambition.

Because the future is too alive to be managed entirely from a spreadsheet.

A plan says, I know where this is going.

A practice says, I am willing to pay attention.

That distinction may be one of the most important things the WampusVerse has discovered.

The extraction economy loves plans because plans can be owned.

Forecasts can be monetized.

Milestones can be measured.

People can be optimized against them.

But a practice?

A practice belongs to the practitioner.

You wake up.

You look around.

You notice what needs tending.

You do the next useful thing.

Then you listen again.

That sounds almost absurdly small until you remember that gardens are built this way.

So are friendships.

So are children.

So are civilizations.

And perhaps so is Rematriarchy.

Not women taking the throne.

Not another hierarchy with different people standing on top.

A return to the source.

A return to the recognition that creation is not a factory and care is not a lesser form of power.

The East calls us toward the things the extraction machine has trained us to overlook because they don't scale neatly:

The garden.

The meal.

The conversation.

The elder.

The child.

The river.

The seed.

The body.

The story.

The relationship that cannot be turned into a quarterly metric.

The question that takes three hours to answer.

The work that matters precisely because nobody can put a price on what it restores.

So today, I point the lantern East.

Not because East contains the answer.

Because East reminds us to begin again.

Tomorrow we wake.

We look.

We listen.

We tend.

And then we do it again.

One day at a time.

The future isn't waiting for us to arrive. It is asking us what we will tend today.
